About the team
The Data Processing Center team is responsible for the fully automated delivery of Methane concentration maps around the world from raw satellite images. It includes the deployment of software solutions to process vast quantities of satellite data in a cloud based infrastructure, the automation of in-orbit instrument calibration and validation, and the development of an algorithm suite accounting for satellite payload and maneuver in order to provide high quality methane emission estimates.
The team is based in Toulouse, France, and includes software developers, computer vision experts and Radiometric specialists. We enforce growth mindsets in order to push the limits and keep learning.
About the Job
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will serve as the technical reference for the industrialization of complex mathematical models. Your primary focus will be transforming advanced algorithms—such as inversion models and statistical solvers—into high-performance, production-ready software.
Core responsibilities will include:
- Numerical Implementation: Implementing sophisticated inversion algorithms to retrieve geophysical maps, ensuring rigorous uncertainty tracking and analytical precision.
- Technical Excellence: Maintaining the highest standards of software engineering through comprehensive testing, documentation, and the application of robust design patterns.
- Python Mastery: Proficient in Python (and ideally Rust) with an expert-level understanding of scientific libraries and modern coding practices.
About you
We are looking for a “hybrid” engineer who is equally fluent in Software Engineering and Applied Physics/Mathematics.
Qualifications & Experience :
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, specifically applied to scientific data processing or high-performance computing.
- Mathematical Proficiency: Strong analytical skills for implementing numerical optimization, linear algebra, and handling complex uncertainty metrics.
- Problem Solver: You have a deep passion for solving intricate numerical problems through elegant code.
- Engineering Rigor: Proven experience in developing and maintaining robust processing pipelines where performance and scalability are paramount.
